The UK Association for Public Administration (UKAPA) supports the teaching of public administration at undergraduate, masters, executive MPA and PhD level. Recognising that public administration and associated subjects are taught on a global level, we focus our efforts on the promotion of public administration teaching in UK universities. We seek to highlight best practice in the teaching of public administration and encourage the dissemination of research into teaching practices.

We recognise universities where teaching public administration is adequately supported (e.g. through potential accreditation of programmes) and seek to facilitate access to experts. We liaise with the Academy of Social Sciences, other professional bodies and research councils to ensure the interests of our discipline are well represented.

We promote equality, diversity and inclusion within the discipline and support the development of quality standards for Public Administration teaching in the UK under professional teaching quality frameworks, such as QAA and TQA and the UN DESA/IASIA Standards of Excellence for Public Administration Education and Training.

Support Mechanisms

  1. Annual Public Administration Lecture exchange programme.
  2. List of participating institutions and member contact details, together with their expertise.
  3. The specialist group’s journal TPA which  encourages submissions from those engaged in PA pedagogy.  UKAPA supports TPA through teaching and learning events.
  4. Annual meeting of MPA course directors to exchange best practice.

  6. Publication of up-to-date expert lists in member institutions, areas of expertise, contact details.
